So you have made the decision to have a boudoir session. Let's discuss a few options you have to make that session an EXPERIENCE! When having a photo session did you know that you can choose between numerous locations to have it done? I will give you five (5) locations that I have personally used to create amazing images and it will give you options when booking your shoot. I will list these in the order I prefer but all of these locations can be used depending on the client's choice.
1) AIRBNB- booking an AIRBNB for the shoot has multiple advantages. You can find some great AIRBNB's with amenities like a pool, game room, pool tables (endless possibilities for your shoot), themed rooms etc. When the home is used for numerous sessions throughout the day it cuts the cost of the home and is divided into the number of shoots used that day. For clients who prefer to use the home after the shoot it becomes an even better deal. An AIRBNB gives you multiple rooms to shoot in, a kitchen for those sexy apron shots, and many have a beautiful yard for some outdoor shots. The privacy afforded by being in an AIRBNB also makes this option very attractive.
2) Outdoor Photography- I love doing outdoor photo sessions because natural light can make some of the most beautiful images. There are many locations in and around Jacksonville to choose from including but not limited to the beach (driftwood at sunrise or sunset makes for marvelous images), state parks, bike trails, local historic areas etc. A quick Google search of beautiful photography locations in Jacksonville will give you an idea of what and where you may want to shoot. Another advantage to outdoor photography is that you can incorporate classic cars or other objects to create a mood or them to your session. The down side of outdoor photography is that you are at the mercy of Mother Nature, privacy and harsh sunlight depending on the time of day of the shoot. Bad weather aside, I love outdoor sessions and have had tremendous success with them.
3) Hotels- I have done many boudoir sessions using hotel rooms and depending on the hotel you can get a wide variety of looks. The focus of a boudoir session is the client so the room does not have to be ornate but you do want a pleasant setting to set the mood for the shoot. Large walk-in showers or fancy tubs can be used to create an atmosphere and making the client feel beautiful and special is part of the experience. In addition to the room you can take photos of your client using hotel stairs, the lobby piano or many other interesting items found at your hotel.
4) Studio-I do not personally own a studio but have several at my disposal. The cost of renting a studio is fairly inexpensive and the ones I would use have their lighting and props already set up so when the client arrives it is go time. I like to site and talk with any client prior to the shoot just to make them more at ease (this time is not counted toward their session time). Many photographers now prefer to rent a studio when needed to save on the cost of a brick and mortar structure and the overhead associated with a studio.
5) Client's Home- there can be many advantages to this option such as no additional cost for the shoot, client comfortable and at ease in her surroundings and familiarity of the client with their surroundings. A pre-shoot consultation would provide photographer an opportunity to access the best locations in the home for a quality session. If the client has a pool at their home it adds another dimension to the session. The downside for the client is the the comfort level of allowing a stranger into their home and especially into their most intimate areas. Depending on the client that could also be a strength to using the home. Another disadvantage is that there would be a time period that the photographer has to set up their lighting.
