1) Pick out outfits that YOU feel comfortable in and that you feel are flattering and make you feel beautiful. Inspect your outfits before the shoot to make sure that they are in good condition and do not have any rips or tears in them. Remove any clothing tags before you arrive at the shoot so you are maximizing the time you have with your photographer. Try on outfits and before the shoot and if the shoot is not a surprise for your significant other, ask them what their favorite outfit is for you to wear. Bring plenty of outfit changes. It is better to have too many than to wish you had more looks. This will be part of the pre-shoot communication with your photographer.
2) COMMUNICATION-this should probably be #1 because it is critical that you and your photographer are on the same page about what you are expecting from the photo session. Emails and text are good but actually speaking with your photographer will give you a better comfort level and ultimately make your session better because you have a personal relationship instead of showing up cold to a session.
3) Make sure you are HYDRATED. Drink plenty of water several days ahead of your session to ensure that your skin looks healthier and avoid alcohol and salt for at least a week before session.
4) If you are not using a stylist for the shoot be sure to bring additional make up to touch up during the shoot. Make sure that you wax, shave and touch up your hair (if it’s dyed) before the shoot. I suggest having your nails done but avoid wild designs unless that is your look and that is what you are going for.
5) Get a pedicure and manicure before your shoot. Your finer nails and toe nails will be in many of your photos and you want them to look their best.
6) Bring the music you want to listen to during session or let your photographer know so that they can be prepared to have it playing.
7) Do some light stretching the night before. You will do some poses for you are not used to and it is good to be stretched to prevent soreness.
8) Research your photographer-Get references and read testimonials. Ask any friends who may have worked with the photographer and look at the examples of their work on their website when available.
9) HAVE FUN-this session is all about you and providing you with photos you will be proud of and your significant other will cherish.
